Eurozone Inflation Expectations: Consumers See Lower Price Growth

Eurozone inflation expectations declined in June, according to the European Central Bank’s latest Consumer Expectations Survey, suggesting households are becoming more optimistic about future price growth. Consumers now expect inflation over the next 12 months to average 3.0%, down from 3.5% in May.

The improvement follows lower energy prices earlier in the summer and easing inflation pressures across parts of the euro area. While geopolitical tensions have recently pushed oil prices higher again, the survey indicates consumers believe inflation will continue moving closer to the ECB’s long-term target.

Economists said lower inflation expectations could support consumer confidence and spending, although rising energy costs remain a key risk for the outlook in the second half of 2026.
