Apollo Raises easyJet Takeover Bid to £5.7 Billion
U.S. private equity firm Apollo Global Management has submitted a £5.7 billion takeover offer for British low-cost airline easyJet, surpassing a previous £5.5 billion proposal from Castlelake. The new bid values easyJet shares at £7.15 each and includes an option allowing existing investors to retain a minority stake after the acquisition.
easyJet’s board said it is inclined to support Apollo’s proposal, which analysts believe better reflects the airline’s value. The news pushed easyJet shares sharply higher as investors welcomed the improved offer.
The potential acquisition comes as European airlines face rising fuel costs, geopolitical uncertainty, and increasing consolidation across the aviation sector, with financially weaker carriers becoming attractive takeover targets. Source
