Uber Eats Merger: Uber’s $14.8 Billion Delivery Hero Deal Reshapes Food Delivery
Uber Eats merger plans moved forward after Uber announced a $14.8 billion agreement to acquire Germany-based Delivery Hero, creating the world’s largest food delivery company outside China. The transaction is expected to significantly expand Uber Eats’ global presence and strengthen its position against competitors such as DoorDash and Just Eat Takeaway.
The combined business would operate across 99 countries with an estimated $236 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV). To address antitrust concerns, Delivery Hero will sell operations in 14 overlapping markets to SSW Partners for approximately €1.4 billion before the acquisition is completed. Uber has also committed to maintaining Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and investing €2 billion in Germany over the next five years.
The merger remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2027. Industry analysts believe the deal marks one of the biggest consolidations in the food delivery sector and could intensify competition across global quick-commerce and online food delivery markets.
